Has the power of positive thinking been a rewarding experience for you or has it been a letdown?
October 17th, 2009 | by admin |MS2 asked:
Someone once told me that I had a black cloud hovering over me. Some things in my life weren’t going so great at that time.
If I had believed that a black cloud was a bad thing to have, then my life may have taken a turn for the worse.
I have always loved black clouds for they shield me from direct sunlight they seem to bring a certain air with them in my sunny state of California…that’s how I could describe positive thinking.

~How would you describe positive thinking?
~Do you believe it works?
~If you don’t think it’s worth talking about…please feel free to tell us why it’s not! There really is no right or wrong answer on this question.
I am attempting to pick your brains in an odd sort of a manner!

Ah, I think positive thinking really helps. I have had times where I look on the positive side of things, and I just felt less depressed. Usually I am rather negative and now know the big difference between the two. Negative=painful, sad, and torture. Positive=happy, sweet and fun. ^^

I’ve been through many medical problems that involved major surgeries, extensive rehab, and near death.
For me, positive thinking is that tiny bit of light at the end of a dark tunnel. As long as I can see it, I have hope and know that I can over come any thing. Having that little light also motivates me to get going and not wallow in self pity. That does no good. Too many people are stuck in that rut. Other people avoid them. I would **** that if it was me.

Sometimes all you can do is be positive…even though you are terrified of the reality of the situation.
It helps in many ways.

It is the art of control. I try very hard to block the negative and not get hooked by the negative.
I know that I can control the kind of person I want to be and not react when others and certain situations would work to push my buttons.
Ex: if I have a crappy parent I can still be the daughter I want to be and act as if I had the parent I would like to have had.
It is maturing to the point to be able to create distance from chaotic forces.
It works for me.

Judging from the state of our country, I’m positive many people aren’t thinking.

I like the power of realistic thinking, sometimes it’s a bummer but I don’t fool myself as much. But I do think positive thinking is a kind of hope-full thinking. And hopefully it will work out in a good direction. Very good question! Have a star.

Me-She 2, where is my soap box ? I have been a promoter of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale and his thought regarding ‘The Power of Positive Thinking all of my adult life. I believe very strongly that that is the key to a lifetime of fulfillment and contentment. I have begged people to read Dr.Peale’s books and I have even bought them and given them to people who I felt could really solve many of their personal problems by taking some of his suggestions to heart. I really feel that I owe Dr. Peale and other people who have had a good influence on me for the life that I have enjoyed.

Usually…but you picked a bad time to ask. I seem to be drowning at the moment in blackness. I’ll try though…How about that.

Positive thinking is not being afraid to state the obvious (which can be negative!), but to find the good in something. It irritates me when people decide to close their eyes to something that’s obvious and not pleasant. But if you dwell on dark clouds, I find it drains your energy and motivation.

Yes, I do think that positive thinking can have a good effect on our lives. By trying to find the good in any situation, I think that we can remain optimistic and calm, no matter what trials are sent our way. It has certainly worked for me over the years ! But you really have to believe in the positive thoughts - not just giving them lip service. I think that is where some people fall down - they just say that they are being positive, but don’t truly believe. Next thing, they are flat on their faces.

Years ago, a coworker suggested I read the book The Game of Life and How to Play It by Francis Scovel Shinn. Affirmations galore.
I used them daily and constantly while working in a hostile environment with negative coworkers and they helped to ease the pain.
Catherine Ponder’s another author on Positive thinking.
